Due to the appointment of Judge Walker to Department 7 in the General Jurisdiction Division, Department 2 in the Family Division is vacant. I seek to fill this position.
Every day, the Washoe County Family Court is called upon to intervene in human relationships, often at the most vulnerable and turbulent time of a person’s life. The decisions in these cases can have far reaching and life altering effects on children and families in our community.
For almost twenty years, I have devoted my professional career to the practice and improvement of family law. After serving as a law clerk to judges Deborah Schumacher, Charles McGee, and Frances Doherty, I transitioned to private practice where I spent eight years committed to the practice of family law. In 2013, I was appointed as a Court Master in the Second Judicial District Court, Family Division, where I continue to serve today working primarily in the area of juvenile delinquency while also covering protective orders, child support, dependency, divorce and child custody matters.
Serving families and children of Washoe County is more than just my professional career; it is my passion. For almost two decades, I have worked to improve our local family law practice and to serve the children and families of Washoe County through extensive volunteer work. Some of this work includes service to the Family Law Executive Council of the Nevada State Bar, the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) Board, Bruce R. Thompson Inns of Court, Northern Nevada Women Lawyers, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Juvenile Justice Reform and State Courts Initiative (JJRSCI) Steering Committee. I have also volunteered for numerous other programs including the We the People program, Lawyer in the Library, continuing legal education classes, and programs in our local schools.
Washoe County needs an experienced, hardworking, service oriented, judge of integrity to carry out this important work. I announce my candidacy to serve as a Family Court Judge in Department Two. If privileged to fill this position, I will use my experience in family law, proven judicial demeanor and work ethic, in continued service to our community.
